RJ Sheens provided a Full service Masonry Package on the project and provided a full pre-construction procurement service for this major works package. Working in partnership with Skanska's design operating unit to ensure that compliance between the various aspects of construction was achieved as accurately as was proposed in the design.
Skanska completed construction of London office development Moorgate Exchange for clients BlackRock, CarVal Investors and Quadrant Estates.
The 12-storey, 20,204 sq m building is located next to Moorgate Station and features six landscaped roof terraces and a green roof.
It achieved BREEAM Excellent and LEED Platinum. Materials with sustainable properties, including recycled aggregates in the concrete, were used in the construction process, while recycled rainwater and grey water storage systems have been installed to reduce the amount of potable water used in the toilets and the irrigation system for the ‘living’ walls on the terraces.
The project team included HKR Architects, client monitoring architects Pringle Brandon Perkins+Will, building services engineer, energy and sustainability consultant Hilson Moran , structural engineer Ramboll, project manager GVA Second London Wall, quantity surveyor Gardiner and Theobald and landscape architect Hyland Edgar Driver.
Skanska managing director, Paul Heather, said: “By using technologies such as LED lighting, low-energy fan coil units and highly efficient chillers and boilers to create this building, we have ensured that tenants will enjoy low energy consumption and reduced running costs.
“The development is a notable addition to our portfolio of high-quality offices in the City, which includes 30 St Mary Axe (the Gherkin), Heron Tower and 6 Bevis Marks, as well as buildings soon to be completed, such as Aldermanbury Square and 100 Cheapside.”
Detailed planning & Co-ordination was also required for working on a tight site with restricted access as well as interfacing with other major package Works contractors including M&E, piling, civil engineering and Steel decking.
